EMG / Nerve Conduction System
EMG (Electromyography) and nerve conduction studies (NCS) are diagnostic tests that together evaluate the electrical activity of muscles and nerves to check for disorders. During an NCS, sensors on the skin measure how fast and well electrical signals travel down a nerve, while an EMG uses a needle inserted into a muscle to record its electrical response to nerve stimulation at rest and during contraction. These tests are often done at the same time to help determine if symptoms are caused by a muscle or nerve issue.
