A dry powder inhaler (DPI) is a breath-actuated device that delivers medication in a dry powder form directly to the lungs for respiratory conditions like asthma, COPD, and emphysema. To use it, a patient prepares a dose, places the mouthpiece in their mouth, and takes a deep, quick inhalation to pull the powder into their airways. The powder is stored in capsules or within a device and requires the patient's inspiratory effort to activate, as opposed to a propellant-driven inhaler.
